Top 3 Reasons Custom Cabinetry is Your Better Value

(Spoiler alert: It’s surprisingly affordable!)

Bespoke. Made-to-order. Tailored. Whatever it is called, the custom-made option for anything is almost always going to be the more expensive choice. Well, almost always.

For Miller Builders’ clients, opting for custom cabinetry can end up costing less, thanks to the construction firm’s in-house cabinet shop. According to Mike Miller, third generation of Miller Builders and in-house custom cabinetry manager, most builders outsource their cabinetry services, which increases the price and production time, even for standard pieces.

He explains, “Our in-house cabinetry capabilities gives us the flexibility to make things happen and a financial edge to be able to sell directly to our customers.”

Here are three reasons why custom-made cabinetry can be the best option for your medical office:

#1. Ability to work within your existing space

As you increase your patient base and staff, your office needs to be able to accommodate that growth using its current configuration. Custom cabinetry provides an efficient and surprisingly affordable solution for growing medical practices that aren’t ready to break their current lease to move to a bigger space.

Your standard, factory-issued cabinetry size is 30 inches in width, which is fine until you have a spot that is 39 inches and rounds a corner,” explains Mike. “When you go with custom cabinetry, special size configurations aren’t a problem.

To further sweeten the appeal of using custom cabinetry, Mike states Miller Builders doesn’t upcharge for specialized sizing and they can produce the custom cabinetry on a short lead time.

#2. Custom cabinetry is fabricated to receive medical equipment and IT

Another advantage to going with custom cabinetry is that the unit can be designed to accommodate different business applications and specialty equipment, such as access to medical equipment and instrumentation needs, according to Mike.

To create its custom cabinet designs and builds, Miller Builders uses an Auto CAD woodworking software system in tandem with an onsite 3-D laser templator. “The 3-D laser templator significantly increases the efficiency, accuracy and speed of templating — and is far superior to doing so manually,” Mike explains.

“The Auto CAD and 3-D templator combination ensures we can build out cabinetry for specialized needs, as well as show the client what the finished product will look like in the existing space,” he says. “After all, I can’t visualize what a root canal looks like, so we don’t expect our clients to do the same for their cabinetry build.”

#3. Expanded selection of colors and finishes

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, custom-made cabinetry is better suited to match, retrofit and modernize your existing colors and finishes.

“With over 300 colors, patterns and decorative laminates, we can design and build cabinetry that matches what’s already in place,” says Mike. “Or we can help our clients create a new design that meets their needs perfectly.”
